Pop found him there four days afterwards. Pop was glad to see him, but Pop looked somewhat bedraggled and harassed.

“Look,” said Pop, even before he had gotten out of the battered tow car. “Look!”

Breeze read the papers Pop gave him, and then he too felt bad about it.

“Read it.” cried Pop. “That guy O’Dowell promoted this flight to show what his Trainer could do, and there you don’t see anything but pictures of that damned Trainer. What a fine ship it is to pull such a load, and all that. And it don’t say anything about you, except that you tried to wreck the flight by refusing to go on from Miami.”

Pop gripped the newspapers as though he would have liked to strangle them. “Damn, damn, damn that guy O’Dowell.”

Breeze gave him a crooked smile. “To hell with it, Pop, we’ll think up something else. Listen, I’ve been figuring something out for several days here, and you know what I think? I think I can start up in Pennsylvania and soar right down the Appalachians to southern West Virginia. How about that, Pop? Don’t you think that would stand them on their ear?”

Breeze had advanced it to cheer Pop up. It did. Pop pointed to the trailer behind the car.

“Get that sailplane on there, Breeze. Let’s go and make this guy O’Dowell look like a monkey-faced baboon.”
